Typically, designing a landscape in Chicago has it’s spatial limitations. With the neighboring lot available for a garden, the homeowners have the luxury of space in an otherwise dense area of the city. Using that space to create three separate gardens allowed us to frame views and invent an experience throughout the property. Beginning at the front you are directed through a boxwood lined walkway which opens up into the front lawn. To soften the house and the neighboring lot the lawn is surrounded by a mix of perennials and shade trees, which blooms all season. Marking the entry to the rear garden are two stone urns that provide excitement as the seasons change. Through a gravel walkway you enter the rear garden and find a private bluestone patio with a comfortable lawn and planting area for hours summertime entertaining.
